A handwritten document of the Appointment of James Reddy Clendon as Inspector of Police in the Bay of Islands in 1855. It has been embossed on a smaller piece of paper with the public seal of the Province of Auckland, New Zealand. The document reads "15/ By his Honor Robert Henry Wynyard/ Esquire L. B. Superintendant of the Province of Auckland/ To James Reddy Clendon Esar./ In pursuance of the Power of authority in/ me vested by an ordinance passed by the Legislative/ Council of New Zealand in the year One Thousand/ Eight Hundred and Forty Six, No. 2 of Session Y and/ by an Act passed by the Provincial Council of the/ Province of Auckland in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Four, No. 8, of the Session N./ I do by warrant under my hand nominate/ and appoint you James Reddy Clendon to be.../ Inspector of Police of the District of the Bay of Islands/ To have, hold and exercise, and enjoy the said office/ of Inspector of Police during pleasure, and I do.../ require you to enter upon and duly discharge the/ duties of the said Office of Inspector of Police of the/ said District./ Given under my hand, and under/ the Public Seal of the Province of/ Auckland this 22nd day in January/ 1855/ R.
