Description
A handwritten document of the Provisional Appointment of James Reddy Clendon as Police Magistrate 1845. Embossed on a smaller piece of paper is the public seal of the Colony of New Zealand. The document reads "By His Excellency Robert Fitz Roy Esquire/ Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over/ the Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and/ Vice Admiral of the same ec_ec_ec_/ To_/ James Reddy Clendon Esquire. J. P. _/ By Virtue of the power and authority in me vested do I hereby/ constitute and appoint you provisionally until the pleasure of Her Majesty/ be made known, a Police Magistrate for the Northern District of New/ Ulster in the said Colony, and for so acting this will be your sufficient/ Warrant of Authority_/ Given under my hand and under the Public/ Seal of the Colony at Government House/ Auckland, this tenth day of April 1845_/ Robt. Fitz Roy/ Governor./ Colonial Secretary/ Entered on Record in Register of Patents S. of Fol 30/ this 11th day of April 1845/ Andrew Sinclair/ Colonial Secretary and/ Registrar."
