Description
A printed document completed by hand in sepia ink for James Reddy Clendon's appointment as Registrar of Marriages, Second of December 1854. The document reads 'To James Reddie (sic) Clendon/ of the Bay of Islands Esquire./ Pursuant to the authority vested in me in that behalf by the "Marriage Act, 1854" I, the/ Officer administering the Government of New Zealand do hereby appoint you, the said James Reddie [sic] Clendon/ to be the Registrar of Marriages for the District/ of the Bay of Islands/ the boundaries whereof are as follows: On the North by a line drawn from the summit of Maungataniwha to the south extremity of the southernmost of the Cavallo [sic] Island. On the/ East by the sea. On the South West by a line drawn to the South Western extremity of Omapere Lake/ thence to Ruapekapeka/ thence to the source of the Ngangaru River, thence down the mid-channel of the Ngangaru to the sea - including all/ the Islands situated on the coast between the South and the North of the Nguangaru [sic] River./ Dated at Auckland this second day of December 1854./ In witness whereof I have caused the seal of the Islands of New Zealand to be/ hereunto affixed./ R. H. Wynyard/ Entered on record this Second day of December/ 1854 in Register of Patents No. 1 folio I 20 by me/ Andrew Sinclair/ Colonial Secretary and Registrar'. There is the impression of the seal and there are two slits in the document where it was attached.
