Description
George Clendon's book of records as Licensed Native Interpreter containing numerous handwritten records. The first part of the book consists of transactions made up of land sales, timber sales, leases, wills etc. which are written in both English and Maori, in the handwriting of G T Clendon and others. It includes a transcription of the Deed made 23 March 1866 between John McIntosh of Mangonui and James Reddy Clendon, Hokianga; J R Clendon purchasing land in Mangonui for £4 Sterling.
Towards the back of the book there are records for Maori land claims, and old age pension and familiy allowance applications dating from1902-1932. Information includes: date of birth, baptism, marriage, children’s names, tribe, assets, particularly land and stock, value of assets. These are all in G T Clendon’s writing.
Lastly there are records of property valuations for 1903 and 1904. Enclosed within are also 52 loose items, letters, claim forms and certificates held inside the back cover.
The book is a large cloth and leather bound volume with blue paper pages.
