Description
Wallpaper fragment; consisting of a smudged mottled paper in beige, brown, cream, green and dull peach, on a scrim background. The fragment is topped with a 20.5 centimetre cut-out border of green, blue, orange and brown leaves, and orange, dull red, yellow and mauve flowers all outlined in dark brown, against a 'wooden' fence rail in brown, with a band of teal blue at top. A 26 centimetre spray of leaves hangs down from the border. A small strip on the sample also has a narrow band of the same border for the skirting. The fragment dates to the 1930s, and was the original sitting room wallpaper at 18 Derwent Street, Island Bay, Wellington.
