Description
A botanical painting by Caroline Lush. This watercolour image shows four images, one is of the kidney fern, also known as Raurenga and has the scientific name Trichomanes reniforme. The plant has rounded, kidney-shaped green leaves. Below this image is written: 'Kidney Fern / Trichomenes reniforme / May 1885'. At the top of the paper are three images which show stages of a Karo (Pittosporum crassifolium) plant fruiting. The first image shows two closed pods on a branch (dated Jan 1885), the second shows two open pods which contain round black seeds (dated Jan 1885) and the third image shows an open pod and exposed seeds from a profile angle (dated 1887).
