Description
Wallpaper frieze roll; three lengths of Art Nouveau frieze with stylised frilly flowers or foliage in blue containing a brown cone, with green stylized leaf shapes with formal sprays of brown bell flowers, all with a brown outline and a superimposed pattern creating a mosaic effect. Filled in with a small formal floral pattern in green. Edged with patterned bands of deep brown, green, blue, on a dark cream ground. Maker's marks are inscribed on reverse. Pencilled on back of faded piece is '8' above a diamond shape containing 'BB' over 'N', and underneath 'Napier to Wellington'. Also pencilled is 'J.H. Riddell, E. Prebble, N. Creagh, May 11.06'. The 'BB' logo indicates 'Bull Bros'; timber merchants, builders and cabinet makers of Port Ahuriri, Napier. The three names indicated were all apprentices at Bull Bros at the date given.
